©R. Bourdeix, 2021, section CT.
For illustrating this section, we can produce on request at least six large HD posters (up to 180x100 cm in size). These posters should be adapted to each country, on a case-by-case basis, in order to prominently feature locally produced coconut products an techniques. It is also possible to buy or rent items from the personal collection of Dr R. Bourdeix.
- CTGC. Coconut graters - Grattoirs à cocotier
- CTGH. Harvest Tools - Outils de récolte
- CTGB. Opening the coconut - Ouverture de la coco
- CTGO. Other Coconut tools - Autres outils
The coconut scraper section is by far the most extraordinary and culturally rich. Old scrapers were most often bulky wooden objects with a metal rod ending in a kind of grater. Sculptors from all tropical continents have had a field day. They imagined a multitude of forms with very diverse symbolic meanings. It is possible to make a poster for all of the scrapers, but that would be a shame because there are enough models to make at least three posters, or even more, depending on the regions.
The other three sections allow each to
prepare a poster.
- The section on harvesting tools focuses on the hooks or sickles that are used to detach the nuts or bunches from the coconut palm.
- The section on the opening of nuts includes all the small objects created to facilitate the opening of nuts, mature or still green to drink.
- Finally, the last section deals with other tools and machines associated with the processing of coconut products.
