Coconut pests – Ravageurs du cocotier


In Thailand, squirrels sometimes attack coco bunches (here a highly prized variety called Aromatic Green Dwarf or Nam hom). But this is quite rare, and it seems that the squirrels, by destroying certain large beetles, protect the coconut trees much more than they damage them...

Coconut crabs are not all the same! Within the species the colors vary... Here again, the damage on the coconut palms remains limited, the crabs are rare, not very dangerous if they are not provoked, and delicious to eat... In certain countries, their consumption is prohibited because they are on the verge of extinction.
